Dundee Science Centre is currently looking for confident, exceptional communicators to join our team to fulfil the key role of Science Communicator in a part-time capacity.

You will be part of a team responsible for the smooth operation of Dundee Science Centre’s programmes and services on a daily basis, supporting the Visitor Experience Leader (VEL). You will support the wider team in science communication and ensure the quality of delivery by team members meets audience expectations and standards. Primary objectives will be championing enhanced visitor engagement, ensuring that audiences have an enjoyable, safe, and inspiring experience.

You will be an ambassador for and the public face of Dundee Science Centre. You will be an excellent communicator and an effective team player with the ability to multi-task. Your main function will be to interact with all visitors in a friendly, outgoing manner ensuring an exceptional experience.

You may at times be responsible for delivering high quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes across all audiences (including schools and community groups) , either in-centre or via outreach , all in line with Dundee Science Centre’s key aims and objectives, alongside local and national government initiatives, and priorities.

You will be an advocate for Inclusion & Diversity, contributing to the development of DSC’s widening access strategies creating a culture of inclusion for our team and audiences.

The successful candidates will have a positive, resourceful, and confident nature with the ability to work independently and play a key role across the organisation. You will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of visitor engagement.

In-depth STEM knowledge is a desirable trait in this role, however having a confident and charismatic nature would be more advantageous. An understanding of science can be enhanced with on-the-job training; but an ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences is essential.

You will work flexibly within the Dundee Science Centre team; hours of work to be discussed, flexible working will be considered, and weekend and evening work will be required.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a member of the Retail team you are on the front line delivering the income that allows the National Trust for Scotland to look after Fyvie Castle. Your role will provide world-class customer service; ensuring the shop is presented to the highest possible standard both in terms of product display and amazing visitor experience.

• Under take the induction/ongoing training of staff on all front-of-house procedures, customer care and stock management (delivery processing etc.)

JOB PURPOSE

As a member of our Visitor Services team your job is to give visitors from across the globe a warm welcome to Fyvie Castle and help generate the income that enables us to care for Fyvie Castle and other National Trust for Scotland properties.

Visiting our tearoom is an essential part of the visitor experience and the role of the Visitor Service Assistant – Catering is to make it a positive and memorable part of a visitor’s day with us.

You will help us maximise sales through excellent customer service and product knowledge, taking a pride in store presentation and effective behind-the-scenes processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• To provide a consistently high standard of visitor care at all times when:
• Welcoming all visitors to the site and processing their catering purchase in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner; supporting visitors with special needs / impairments and providing a high level of service in accordance with the Equality Act.
• Answering visitors’ queries about the catering offer, deals, seating, and ingredients.
• Checking on how visitors are enjoying their experience of catering at Fyvie Castle and enquiring whether all their needs are met.
• Consistently presenting high quality plating of food.
• Promoting the National Trust for Scotland and the benefits of membership of it.
• To maintain excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times
• The general ongoing operational cleaning of all areas as necessary
• Wearing correct uniform, name badges, or PPE as required.

JOB PURPOSE
Here at National Trust for Scotland’s beautiful Brodie Castle we are looking for energetic, cheerful, and talkative individuals to join our amazing welcome team this summer. No previous experience is needed, we would just love to hear from people who can interact and chat with our guests and make them feel welcomed and valued from the minute they arrive until we wish them farewell. This role is vital in providing an amazing welcome in all areas of the offer here at Brodie Castle, helping our visitors have a fantastic experience and create wonderful memories for our guests. Based in the Welcome Centre, Retail, Castle or initial welcoming areas, your role is to make a great day out truly exceptional for our guests. You’ll help us maximise all charity income opportunities through excellent customer service, product knowledge and taking a pride in everything we do, as well as inviting visitors to support our work through membership.

With an interest in history or storytelling you will help our visitors get a glimpse of the past while you show them around the Castle and share the stories of the family, the collection and the building itself.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide excellent customer service to all who choose to visit.
• Be responsible and proactive. Ensuring all day-to-day tasks are completed as instructed.
• To welcome customers to the property by providing information on the site and facilities.
• Work with the Visitor Services Managers and property staff to deliver financial targets and other KPI’s.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To help maximize our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income, and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure. Specifically, to provide an efficient, reliable service and high standards in collections care and general cleaning at the property. The post holder will be part of a wider team of employees and volunteers, helping to support the property where necessary.

To assist with collection movement, cleaning and condition assessments within the property after recent works on interior decoration and assist with the collection’s reinstatement from temporary storage, security, protection, documentation, remedial cleaning and Trust programmes of preventive monitoring.
The role is 40 hours worked over 5 days per week and will include weekend and evening working to support events and property tour program.

A driver’s licence and access to vehicle is preferred due to the location and accessibility of the property.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To carry out a wide range of collections care duties as directed by the Visitor Services Supervisor Collections Care in line with current NTS best practice standards
 To assist with the organisation and supervision of the movement of objects under the direction of line mangers.
 To assist in the assessment, packing/un-packing and reinstallation of collections within the property’s principal rooms.
 To undertake collections care in accordance with NTS policies.
 To be systematic and methodical in record-keeping, documentation, and any other administrative needs of the job, to ensure that the collections conservation elements of the project are efficient and support NTS policies for collections care.
 To help identify those items at risk or requiring specialist attention/remedial conservation and bringing to the attention of the Conservation Advisor, Edinburgh & East.
 To undertake housekeeping tasks to ensure standards of care are resumed and maintained within the property.
 To undertake necessary cleaning of the property areas and associated buildings, meeting the standards agreed by the VSM property staff.
 To liaise, under the direction of the Collections Care Supervisor Forth Valley, with any contractors working onsite to ensure the collections physical security and those working do not contravene Health and Safety legislation.
 To be vigilant at all times to the presence and condition of all historic interior surfaces, decorative elements and collection items in situ and to report accidental damage to the collections conservation and management team.

Visitor Services / Events
 To actively feedback visitor comments to develop and improve conservation and visitor experience.
 To aid property staff and cluster collections care staff in creating and providing specialised public tours of the property.
 To assist with the set-up, stewarding and break-down of events in relation to collections in liaison with your line manager.
 Collection’s conservation engagement through participating in public programmes such as Conservation in Action, as required in order to promote an understanding of preventive conservation and collection care works.
 Work with conservation volunteers and take an active role in staff and volunteer training in liaison with your line manager.
 Deliver excellent customer care (internal and external) to foster a friendly and inviting atmosphere for visitors, staff and volunteers.
