The role

Providing a first-class sales and customer service experience to all visitors at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo and by providing information and assistance and ensuring an environment that is engaging and well maintained.

These are seasonal variable hours roles where the working hours will vary and weekend working will be required.

Some of the things you’ll do:

* Provide first-class customer service by maintaining a positive, welcoming environment, proactive and helpful attitude to all visitors, meeting or exceeding our Visitor Service Standards.
* Operate admissions, access systems and park vehicles efficiently and effectively to provide the best service and to agreed health and safety standards and ensure areas are organised, clean and tidy.
* Operate the cash floats efficiently and assist with the counting and recording of monies to agreed standards.
* To act as a public facing representative of RZSS in accordance with the Society’s core values.
* Ensure all front of house areas (car park, members gate, vehicle gate) are maintained to the highest standard, ensuring tickets, leaflets and information are regularly replenished, all areas are clean and clear, all posters and signs are presented as directed.

What we’re looking for:

* Good achievement in standard grades (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
* Valid driving license (with at least 1 year’s driving experience).
* Accurate numerical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
* Engaging customers empathetically to provide information, sell tickets and deal with queries
* Providing first-class customer care and service, including dealing with customer queries.

BACKGROUND
National Mining Museum Scotland is the national body responsible for the preservation and interpretation of Scotland’s Mining Heritage. Our core purpose is to preserve our internationally important collection and estate through encouraging and supporting a wide ranging audience through access and participation in visitor experiences and developing learning resources.

VISITOR SERVICES AIMS
Visitors are an essential part of the Museum and we aim to exceed their expectations. Visitor Services Assistants (VSA) are key to providing visitors with a 5 star level of customer service – from the moment they enter the museum – setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day. VSA’s are responsible for answering queries, orientating visitors and making sure they have all the information they need to enjoy their visit. VSA’s inform visitors about the amazing work we do and what their tickets/purchases fund.

PURPOSE OF POST
 To provide a high quality customer services to ensure that NMMS visitors of all ages have an enjoyable experience that informs, educates and inspires.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Greet each customer in a friendly and approachable manner
 Orientate visitors by informing them of facilities on site
 Proactively undertake visitor surveys and input results into the database
 Inform visitors about NMMS programmes and events and sell tickets when appropriate
 Sell tickets to visitors and up-sale appropriately
 Keep accurate records of tour numbers and communicate with guides
 Serve as first point of contact for telephone enquires

 Accept deliveries, goods match shop stock and report any discrepancies to line manager
 Order, unpack, label and store or shelve shop stock
 Monitor and report on shop stock levels
 Maintain the appearance of the shop to a high standard ensuring that stock is displayed in an attractive manner, shelves are dusted, glass cases are clean and shop talkers are displayed

 Commit to good Health and Safety practice and ensure familiarity with NMMS health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines
 Maintaining a safe and clean environment
 Regularly check exhibition areas and report any issues

 Assist in the preparation and delivery of educational tours, learning activities and museum events
 Undertake such duties and responsibilities that may be reasonably required by NMMS

We are looking to recruit a small team of Visitor Assistants working across all our Galleries based in central Edinburgh.

Flexibility will be required to work between our sites – the Scottish National Gallery, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

We are looking for applicants who are willing to work from a choice of either 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, or 5 days a week (between 13 and 32 hours per week) and to work weekends on a regular basis. Hours will be 09.45 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. with some days starting at 08.45 a.m. to provide switchboard cover.

We currently have vacancy based at the National Museum of Scotland. Your role will be working front of house, meeting and greeting visitors and helping them to have a great visitor experience.

Previous experience of delivering high quality service to others is desirable, but more important to us is your confident, friendly and visitor focused disposition.

This role will be working on a part time basis of 17.5 hours per week. The post holder will work 5 days over 7 on a rotational basis. A sample rota can be found in the recruitment pack.

The Estate rental portfolio comprises let farms, grass park lets, cottages, industrial premises and telecoms and renewable leases. In-hand enterprises include forestry, country sports, Castle Kennedy Gardens, and events at Lochinch Castle.

A new role has been created to focus on Castle Kennedy Gardens and we are seeking a Visitor Services Manager to join the team and play a pivotal role ensuring that the management objectives of Stair Estates are achieved through excellent customer service, and with delegated responsibility for tourism, catering, retail, events, and duty management and will be the “face” of Stair Estates to visitors and suppliers.

The position is primarily responsible for delivering the highest standard of visitor experience for all visitors to Castle Kennedy Gardens where they will ensure the efficient and profitable running of Castle Kennedy Gardens Shop, Plant Centre, and Tea Room as a successful commercial enterprise and consistent with its status as a 4* Visitor Attraction.

The role involves leading and managing a small team of staff, managing performance, recognising training needs and potential where appropriate.

Responsibilities include day to day management of the Shop, Tea Room and Plant Centre, and as line manager to the Shop and Tea Room staff. Strategic, creative, and financial management of the gift shop and tearoom, ensuring that innovative ideas and current trends in catering are being delivered, manging the till and stock, generating weekly report, and constantly looking at ways to maximise income through effective purchasing and creative merchandising.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of the visitor experience for individual and group visits, and will involve regular monitoring of customer feedback, mystery visitor and Visit Scotland audits and the development of suitable action plans depending on the results.

The position will assist with the annual marketing programme, working where appropriate with internal and external marketing support, reporting to the Estate Factor and the Owners, the Earl and Countess of Stair.

As the role develops there is scope for the post holder to take over responsibility of managing and developing the visitor experience at the Holiday Cottages working closely with Housekeeping and the Properties Manager, take responsibility for managing the visitor experience for a varied programme of sporting activities and be responsible for planning, implementing and reviewing a wide range of annual events.

Skills and experience required:

• Experience in retail and visitor services sectors, ideally within another Visitor Attraction, Hospitality, Tourism or similar operation.
• Experience supervising and motivating staff
• Ability to demonstrate good health and safety awareness
• Excellent written communication, copywriting, and proof-reading skills (blogging, vlogging and social networks)
• A good understanding of public expectations of a garden attraction
• An appreciation of marketing, promotion and the influence of social media
• An enjoyment of rural life and working on an Estate
• Full driver’s license is required

Salary is up to £30k dependent on skills and experience plus company benefits.

Purpose of the Role
To maximise visitor enjoyment of this property by helping to care for, protect and promote its Nationally Significant Collections and historic Interiors and by providing an efficient and effective service through high standards of Collections care and conservation cleaning based on the needs of the property and its collections.

Key Responsibilities

The Collections Care Assistant is responsible for a wide variety of duties in connection with the care and conservation of the interiors and collections at Brodick Castle. These duties involve the correct handling and conservation cleaning of the collections, following best-practice at all times, and general housekeeping duties throughout the House.

Specific duties include:
• Best-practice conservation cleaning of the collections (furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, works of art, textiles, rugs, books etc), using property-specific cleaning plans and approved and recommended methods, materials and equipment
• Conducting the daily, weekly, monthly and annual conservation cleaning of the collections & property including the collection storage areas, the visitor route and visitor services areas
• Assisting the property teams to hold functions and events ensuring appropriate conservation standards are upheld.
• Monitoring the condition of the collections, both through routine, informal checking and formal record keeping, reporting any concerns, damage or loss to the Collections Management Officer, the Regional Conservator and the Collections Services Team
• Accessing the Trusts Collections Management Database, Adlib, obtain information about the collections as and when required.
• Contributing to the NTS Integrated Pest Management strategy & assist with required treatments.
• Supported by the Collections Management Officer, ensuring sufficient stocks of conservation materials are maintained
• Assisting the Collections Management Officer to promote the Property and collections using social media and in house activities and events

Financial Responsibilities

• To adhere to all financial procedures to include till operations and cash reconciliation duties.

Health and Safety
• To ensure the site meets with the Health and Safety legislation in liaison with your department manager.
