We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual, with experience in managing commercial visitor experiences. We have a Visitor Commercial Manager role within our Visitor Services Team for a 12 months Fixed Term Contract (with the possibility of extension).

As the largest provider of outdoor recreation in Scotland, Forestry and Land Scotland, welcome over ten million visitors per year and help generate £110 million of tourism spend for the wider Scottish economy. With over three hundred visitor destinations, including six forest parks, our destinations offer many different outdoor experiences, including walking, cycling, wheeling, horse riding, dog sports, water sports, wildlife watching, places of cultural and heritage significance and more.

The post holds the following responsibilities:

  • Commercial Car Park Management – take the lead for FLS in policy, process, procurement and contract management.
  • Visitor Hub Commercial Management – take the lead in management of catering, retail and other visitor services leases and concessions.
  • Support Regions with staff development and queries around visitor commercial.
  • Set and monitor visitor quality standards at key destinations.
  • Support Regions with new visitor commercial developments and projects at key destinations.

The forests and land we look after also play a key part in Scotland’s ‘natural health service’, providing spaces where people of all ages can spend time enhancing their physical and mental health through play, exploration and relaxation. FLS is composed of five Regions and a National support team. Within each Region there is a Visitor Services team and this is supported by the National Visitor Services and Communities function. This role is within the National Visitor Services and Communities function. The work at both Regional and National level around visitor services is supported with partnerships with Scottish Government, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue, Local Authorities, National Parks, Visit Scotland, Nature Scot and others.

Main Duties

  • Manage and monitor car park cash collection, card payments and pay by mobile contracts.
  • Procurement and manage car park machine framework.
  • Work with Regions to monitor car park income.
  • Ensure parking compliance with British Parking Association code of conduct.
  • Manage new catering concession contract.
  • Manage current visitor services commercial leases and agreements in conjunction with Regions.
  • Support Regions with the development of visitor commercial activities.
  • Provide commercial visitor guidance and support for Regional projects.
  • Update commercial visitor guidance for Regional staff.
  • Manage the VisitScotland and Green Tourism Grading Award Schemes for FLS.

JOB PURPOSE:

To supervise, support, develop and train adults with variety of special needs in horticultural activities for their physical and mental wellbeing.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Implement, develop and establish a program of horticultural training awards including the ‘Grow and Learn Award’
  2. Maintain and develop the GROW garden.
  3. Help develop commercial opportunities.
  4. Support the operations of the nursery and Botanic Gardens.
  5. Recruit, develop and support a network of volunteers to help the project
  6. Liaise with parents, carers, guardians, support workers, social workers and other individuals and organisations as required.
  7. To provide cover as required.
  8. Gardening –To be practically involved in all areas of the gardens and support those with additional needs in their activities. A good level of physical fitness is required.
  9. Ensure legislative compliance in all areas, including safe working practices in accordance with current health and safety legislation and to carry out health and safety procedures as required by HLH.
  10. To always comply with HLH Code of Conduct and Role Model Behaviors
  11. Responsibility for the security of the building ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed. Be a key holder and be able to respond to out-of-hours call outs.
  12. Ensure the cleanliness of all areas of the GROW project including toilets.
  13. To support in the delivery of our obligations to Highland Council, NHS, BID and other trusted partners and stakeholders.
  14. To work with the Facility Manager to achieve the objectives of High Life Highland.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries sector – this includes 440 museums and galleries of all sizes and organisational types.  We strive to be an inclusive, agile and forward-looking organisation that seeks to lead and support positive change in the sector.

MGS has been funded by Scottish Government and National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop Delivering Change, a programme which supports the museums workforce to work with underrepresented audiences with confidence to create a more inclusive museum sector.

The Inclusive Funding Facilitator (Delivering Change) will work with the grants team to support a review of MGS’s existing grants programme to ensure it reflects inclusive values and can contribute to positive change in the sector. During this time, MGS will explore potential change across our grant streams, and the post holder will work with project advisors and project team to plan the Community Grants that will be administered as part of Delivering Change.

You will have experience in instigating and supporting change within an organisation and experience of working within the communities or equalities sector, ideally with those who have experienced barriers to accessing culture in the past. Strong communication, organisational and administrative skills are required; the post holder will additionally have excellent critical thinking skills, ideally honed within an inclusion, participation, or equalities context, and some understanding of grant funding. You will be able to work with a range of colleagues and partners with enthusiasm and initiative as well as constructively challenge current practices and thinking.

Volunteer Directors sought as Board members for Braemar’s Community Castle

Braemar Castle is a community asset, operated since 2007 under the control of Braemar Community Limited (BCL) Scottish Charity–SC038573.

Built as a Hunting Lodge in 1628 by the Earl of Mar, burnt down during the first Jacobite Uprising in 1689, it was repaired and rebuilt in 1746 by the Government following the Battle of Culloden as a barracks for Hanoverian troops.  For the past 200 years, it has been a family home to the Chiefs of Clan Farquharson, who first opened it to the public as a Visitor Attraction in the 1960s.

Since 2007 the Castle has been successfully operated by the community with Castle visitor numbers steadily building from an initial 3,000 to 14,000 in 2019, with 30,000 (non-paying!) visiting the grounds.

The Castle is now closed with work underway on a major £1.6 million “Raising the Standard” project funded with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and many local, and national, trusts and supporters.  Alongside the re harling of the Castle, this project will further the Castle’s economic and educational potential as an acclaimed attraction with a bold, creative, far-reaching programme of community engagement, activity and learning.

If you are willing and able to contribute to this significant development, we have an opportunity for you as BCL are looking to create an Operational Board for our Community Castle.  Whether experienced or looking to become involved in a Board for the first time, we would like to hear from you.   Directors provide oversight of the leadership and direction for the Castle’s future, as well as financial and strategic management. These posts will be very rewarding, but are non-remunerated, while travel expenses can be covered for in person meetings

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is looking for a Digital Content Executive to join its Marketing and Communication team.

An enthusiastic team player, you will manage and grow our social media activity and online communities – from content creation, moderation, relationship building to optimisation.

Our social media channels significantly contribute to the organisation’s reputation by sharing rich science, horticultural, educational and visitor content.  You will work on a daily basis with colleagues to extend the reach of our voice and generate compelling content – including words, video and photography – that delivers RBGE’s vision, mission and values in an engaging way.

By evaluating and measuring our social media activity, you’ll make sure that we are increasing awareness and engagement through all we share.

Applicants should be qualified to degree level, or have equivalent experience in a related subject, with relevant experience in social media management and the production of digital content. Applicants must also possess excellent copywriting and communication skills, with the ability to multi-task and work to tight deadlines. They must also be skilled in video camera operation and video editing. Knowledge of CRM systems for data management are desirable.
