KEY PURPOSE

As part of the property team, assist with the conservation and development of the properties and gardens to ensure that Craigievar Castle and Estate are presented at the highest standards to its visitors and guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Key Purposes of the job will be met by:
1. Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden (e.g. managing trees and shrubs, herbaceous plants, and bulbsturf care; pest/disease/weed control; composting and soil improvement; hard-landscaping; path care) to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors;
2. As requested, assisting with education/interpretation activities such as introductory talks and guided walks;
3. Fostering positive relationships promote the work of the Trust, and actively seek opportunities to increase Trust membership;
4. On occasion, working with volunteers and/or staff members to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard, and gain benefit/satisfaction from their activities;
5. Demonstrating self motivation, organizing, planning, and prioritizing and good time management;
6. Undertaking such other reasonable duties as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth running of the property as required by the Head Gardener.
7. Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety, and environment policies and procedures.

The current duties of this job do not require a criminal records (Disclosure Scotland) check to be carried out.

SCOPE OF JOB

People Management
 Not a line manager but will, on occasion, supervise volunteers and staff under instructions from Head Gardener;
 Will work closely with other property colleagues, and will have some interaction with other technical/specialist advisory colleagues based in other locations and departments (e.g. Gardens department);
 Will have regular (daily) interaction with members of the public and guests of all ages and abilities;

JOB PURPOSE

The Seabird Ranger will undertake a programme of monitoring key seabird species in order to ascertain breeding success and obtain an accurate estimate of population size. Through monitoring a greater understanding of the status of the colonies and the threats and issues affecting them will be achieved. This information will help in the protection of the seabirds and increase our understanding of their populations and environment. Submitted results will be collated into national datasets to inform a wider understanding of species numbers and health. The seabird monitoring programme will be guided by the NTS Senior Seabird Officer (to be appointed).
It is anticipated that the Seabird Ranger will work closely with one or more volunteers and be responsible for their day to day management
The Seabird Ranger will also be the face of the National Trust for Scotland on Mingulay during the busy summer months and will play a key role in welcoming visitors to help ensure their time on Mingulay is highly enjoyable and memorable, while helping to protect and enhance the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

JOB PURPOSE

The job exists to provide facilities support at Hermiston Quay to ensure security, safety, compliance and operational effectiveness.

CONTEXT

Hermiston Quay is the National Trust for Scotland’s (NTS) headquarters within which are located the organisation’s executive offices (including the Chief Executive and Chairman), and support functions including finance, IT, People and fundraising along with wider consultancy and support functions. It is largely an open-plan office of approx. 30000 sq ft, over three floors with adjacent car park comprising 65 spaces. The site and its building are leased to the NTS on a fully repairing and insuring lease, and contracts are in place for the maintenance and repair of plant, building services, office equipment, and for cleaning and grounds care services. Approximately 150 head office staff are based at Hermiston Quay which also provides a hub for attendance by regional Trust teams. Additionally, HQ’s meeting rooms facilitate and host NTS Board meetings and other meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.

The Facilities Officer (FO) will have the responsibility and authority for the security and safety of those persons in the building, including staff, contracted persons, and visitors.

Working as part of a professional security team, you will ensure and maintain the security, safety and integrity of all National Museums Scotland buildings and provide a safe and secure environment for all staff, visitors and collections. With proven relevant experience of working in a security environment previously, you will have a good working knowledge of security, fire, intruder and CCTV systems and procedures and knowledge of reception duties/access control for staff, contractors and visitors. You will possess good communication skills, in relation to both telephone manner and radio procedures and also in dealing with enquiries and requests for assistance. You will have good organisational skills and the ability to remain calm and positive under pressure and in dealing with a wide range of enquiries and situations.

A good knowledge of Health and Safety at Work procedures and experience in dealing with incidents / situations requiring an immediate or timed response is essential. This role can be demanding in nature in terms of the duties concerned and the environment in which it is carried out. ICT skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, basic administrative skills and a current First Aid certificate are desirable.

A shift allowance of £3,371 per annum is payable.

The Art Works is our project to deliver a sustainable new facility for the National Galleries of Scotland to care for, research and share Scotland’s world-renowned collection of art. We will build a dynamic new facility in Granton, right at the heart of the local community, with spaces for local people and groups to meet and connect. It will be the largest building in Scotland designed to the Passivhaus environmental standard and, once open, it will operate at carbon net zero.

This role will ensure that NGS is responding to and working with the local community to embed The Art Works in North Edinburgh to enable it to make a positive contribution. The post holder will maintain and developing relationships with local groups and organisations. The role will enable the community voice to contribute and influence the Art Works in terms of its design and its contribution to the community. The role will be a conduit for clear and open communication between the local community, NGS colleagues and project partners. The research and insights gained through working with the community will support the wider NGS audience development planning and as such this post will have an awareness and understanding of the audience plans for NGS. The post will contribute to a community engagement plan for NGS and The Art Works.

Key duties and responsibilities:

1. Maintain, and develop new relevant, relationships with community groups and organisations in North Edinburgh

2. Maintain up to date knowledge of community research, consultations, community planning for the local North Edinburgh area.

3. Plan and deliver a financially viable programme of engagement for NGS and the local north Edinburgh communities that establish NGS presence in local area, and aligns with the strategic direction of The Art Works

4. Integrate existing NGS programmes with local community

5. Contribute to the development of The Art Works project through contributions to reports, team discussions, project decision making and collaborating across the project and NGS more widely

6. Contribute to the development of a community engagement/integration plan for The Art Works pre and post opening

Purpose of the role – how it adds value
To contribute to the management of Brodick Country Park & Goatfell, in line with the Trust’s objectives for conservation, access and enjoyment, and meeting health and safety and other policies and standards. To help deliver the targets in the countryside management operational plan. The post holder will help to protect and enhance the natural and cultural heritage whilst facilitating access by visitors and increasing their enjoyment and understanding by means of interpretation and partnerships with local stakeholders.

Brodick Castle, Gardens and Country Park and Goatfell.
Brodick Castle, Country Park and Goatfell could be described as the archetypal Trust property exhibiting all the elements that the Trust aims to conserve, from built and natural heritage to the collections, designed landscape and wild land.

Brodick Castle, with its magnificent gardens and policies, rises majestically above Brodick Bay on the Isle of Arran. Once owned and created by the Dukes of Hamilton, one of Scotland’s grandest aristocratic families, the property derives much of its significance from this association. The Castle is of national importance for its architectural and archaeological interest, and the gardens have three national collections of Rhododendrons.

JOB PURPOSE
To combine responsibilities on nature conservation, visitor services, learning and community engagement to help deliver the strategic objectives of the property and wider National Trust for Scotland.
Protect the landscapes in our care and associated marine habitats as part of ecologically healthy habitat networks where natural processes predominate and help combat climate change. Enable more people to experience more heritage more often, get more out of it & put more back into it. Use evidence and practice from our natural heritage properties to support our voice in national debates advocating for natural heritage. Work with communities living on or close to our land or with an interest in our land so that they collaborate with us to help achieve our natural heritage outcomes. Protect the built and archaeological heritage in our care and use them to help us explain the “habitats” outcome and achieve the “visitor’s” outcome.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Combine responsibilities across the following areas of work with direct implementation yourself and by overseeing the work of others such as your team, contractors, volunteers, and other colleagues:
Visitor Services
• Provide information to visitors to encourage more visitors and help people get more out of their engagement with natural heritage and give more back to it including “upselling” (e.g.: of membership) using face to face and by other means of interaction such as social media.
• Maintain countryside estate infrastructure at small, day to day scale (e.g. paths, gates, signs, vegetation management) to achieve ecological, visitor services and safety outcomes.
• Develop and deliver a program of events and assist with property events.

PURPOSE :
To assist the Head Gardener in the conservation, care and presentation of the property’s gardens and policies..

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with the conservation, maintenance and development of the garden, and historic designed landscape within the context of the Trust’s policies and standards such that its conservation as natural/cultural heritage is not compromised. This includes lawn care and turf maintenance, pest and weed management, watering, pruning and planting;
• The care of tools, machinery and garden furniture or ornaments;
• Assist with the implementation of work plans within the context of the Garden Schedule, ensuring that daily maintenance, cyclical and one-off projects are achieved on time and to the agreed standards;
• Assist the Head Gardener working with volunteers and resources across the property;
• Assisting in the provision of an attractive and highly-presented amenity for general visitors with concern for their health and safety, paying special attention to the needs of disabled visitors;
• In the absence of (or at the request of) the Head Gardener, assume general responsibility for the security of the garden and supervision of garden volunteers;
• Be responsible and accountable for the implementation of the Trust’s Health & Safety Policy at the property, being mindful at all times of the health and safety of self, staff, volunteers, and visitors;
• Occasionally duties include welcoming/processing visitors and selling plants and gifts from the shop;
• Some weekend duties are required.

We are looking for enthusiastic and conscientious people with excellent customer service skills to join the team at Dunnottar Castle over the summer season.

There are 3 positions available, from 1st April to circa mid-September (exact dates dependent on rota position).

2 days on, 4 days off shift pattern, which will include some weekend working.
Hours of work 09:00-18:00.

Required for duties including: –
Ensure the coach park is operated efficiently to maintain pre-booked spaces, deal with coach parties and communicate arrivals to Castle kiosk
Ensure the main car park is operating efficiently
Keep car/coach park areas tidy and free from litter
Deal with camper van space availability
Painting and gardening around parking areas
Regular checks on cleanliness and condition of temporary toilet block
Ensure consumable stocks in toilet block are maintained throughout the day
Cleaning of toilet block at the end of the day

Located in the Registrar team, this fixed-term, 12-month appointment will report to the Registrar Manager and play a key role in delivering National Museums Scotland’s loans, acquisitions and disposals programmes in accordance with Museum policy and procedures.

You will have a degree in a relevant subject, plus a postgraduate qualification in museum studies (or equivalent). You will have proven relevant work experience in delivering collection registration services in a museum or similar environment.

You will have an excellent working knowledge of all aspects of loan arrangements at both national and international level to assist with the delivery of the Museum’s programme of short and long term loans (incoming and outgoing). You will arrange insurance/indemnity cover for loans and maintain records of National Museums Scotland’s total indemnity.
With proven experience of museum acquisitions and disposals, you will apply professional knowledge and judgement to provide effective advice and support to Collections staff undertaking collections acquisitions and disposals. You will possess strong logistical and project management skills to assist with the management of transport and courier arrangements.

You will be a strong communicator with the ability to foster excellent working relationships with a diverse range of staff, both within the Museum and externally. To manage multiple projects and competing priorities, you will have strong time management skills, proficiency in using databases and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. A driving licence or ability to arrange suitable alternative transport is essential.

PAPER CONSERVATOR (BAND 5)
FULL TIME, FIXED TERM FOR TWO YEARS

This is a specialist conservator role, delivering paper conservation across the collection. It is based within the Collections Care Directorate, reporting to the Lead Paper Conservator. It sits alongside and complements the other conservation specialisms of paintings, frames and time-based media.

The Paper Team has traditionally focussed on the artworks within the NGS collection, but while that remains the largest area of work, there is an increasing requirement for the team to be involved with the care of the library and archive.

Paper conservation and other main duties:

• Assist colleagues with the planning and programming of the paper conservation work required to deliver the loans, displays, exhibitions, acquisitions, and collections care activities which are scheduled.

• Keep records of work undertaken over the course of the year and liaise with colleagues to flag up any anticipated issues with the delivery of the work programme and to advise on whether additional requests can be accommodated.

• Undertake the conservation work required for exhibitions and displays of works on paper and library and archive material, both within NGS and at non-NGS sites, including advising on the suitability of works of art for transport and display, condition checking, conservation treatments and application of preventive conservation measures.

• Undertake paper conservation work required to improve standards of collections care, such as condition surveys of targeted parts of the collection and remedial treatments of objects in poor condition.

• Carry out a range of written and electronic documentation, including requesting photography, communicating findings, and providing data for entry onto the NGS collections management database (Multi Mimsy) and NGS website.

• With colleagues, respond to any incident reports which relate to works on paper or library and archive material.

• Liaise with Conservation Technicians and Art Handling Technicians to ensure that works are safely packed and installed, which may involve designing specialist storage and display cases.

• Where appropriate, undertake art historical research relating to parts of the NGS works on paper collection and the NGS library and archive collection, and conservation research relating to modes of deterioration and conservation materials and techniques.

2. OVERALL PURPOSE

2.1 As part of the Cullen Sea School team you will help with the organization and delivery of watersports activities including paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing sessions. Maintaining standards and safety to a degree of excellence as required by Cullen Sea School.

3. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Managing the paddlesports session on the water, being responsible for the customers and Beach Assistants health and safety.

3.2 Group control of the customers during the session.

3.3 Provide safety briefing and instruction at relevant level for customers experience.

3.4 Monitor weather and sea conditions to ensure safety of customers.

3.4 Setting up and taking the kit and equipment to the harbour and returning it after the sessions. This includes the washing down of all equipment and correct storage after use.

3.2 Supporting the Administrator on the beach and the Paddlesport Leader on the water to deliver the sessions for the customers.

3.3 Providing shore watch duties for sailing sessions.

3.4 Perform daily kit and equipment checks and reporting of any faults to the Paddlesport Leader to ensure compliance with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority.

3.5 Assist in keeping the sea school yard clean and tidy and secure.

3.6 Accountable to the Sea School Administrator and Paddlesport Leader for health and safety of colleagues, customers, and self.

3.7 Adhere to Cullen Sea School procedures and perform such other duties as may be assigned by Cullen Sea School.

4 SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

4.1 Paddlesport Instructor Certificate in paddleboarding or kayaking, valid Scottish Canoe Association (SCA) Membership, First Aid (to SCA requirement) and Child Wellbeing course.
