Job Summary
The Conservation Technicians make up a small group of specialists sitting within the Conservation Department. Their main purpose is to devise and implement systems to ensure that the NGS collections and those works on loan to NGS are displayed, stored and transported in a safe and appropriate manner.

The role of the Conservation Technician – Paper is to work with the Senior Conservation Technician – Paper to deliver the paper conservation technician service. This primarily consists of delivering technical work, with reference to agreed standards where appropriate, and monitoring progress against agreed targets.

Key Responsibilities
Technical work (95%)
Undertake the preparation of art works upon acquisition, or for the public, loans and collections care programmes, following standard methodologies as appropriate but also finding innovative solutions where necessary. This work includes:
• Designing and cutting mounts and securing objects within them;
• Removing objects from frames and putting objects into frames;
• Making new standard frames and liaising with colleagues to organise the manufacture of complex frames;
• Packing and unpacking objects, creating new packing systems as necessary.

Organisation and management (5%)
Assist the Senior Conservation Technician with the organisation and management of the paper conservation technician work, including:
• Liaising with the Paper Conservators to plan work on objects for acquisitions processing, for the public programme, for loans or for collections care projects;
• Liaising with the Paper Conservators to organise the movement of paper-based objects in and out of the conservation department, ensuring that location records are maintained;
• Ensuring that objects in the paper conservation technician studio are safe and secure, and that the studio is tidy and well organised;
• Ensuring that any paper conservation technician contractors have the resources they need for their work;
• Liaising with the Paper Conservators and the Digitisation team to organise the photography of objects as required;
• Monitoring the progress of the paper conservation technician work so that any potential failure to meet deadlines can be identified and addressed, and so that collections care work can be programmed in when capacity permits.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen as Caretaker to assist the RZSS Edinburgh Zoo Property & Estates Team in managing the day-to-day build and maintenance of all buildings, facilities and infrastructure, to ensure that all areas of are safe and well presented for our visitors and in accordance with agreed service standards and in a cost-effective manner, in support of RZSS’ mission and vision. This post also supervises the vehicle gate receiving deliveries and making contact with departments to advise them of arrivals.

Some of the things you’ll do:

– Work with minimal supervision, under the direction of more senior tradesperson, to provide labouring and driving tasks to agreed standards
– Supervise the vehicle gate and follow arrival/departure procedures of all vehicles entering the site, including drivers signing in and out, receive deliveries and alert relevant departments of arrival.
– Responsible for site security and access of contractors/vehicles via the vehicle gate and follow the opening and closing procedures of both the vehicle gate and pedestrian gate for staff.
– Proactively undertake daily site inspections of public areas and perimeter checks, diary any tasks by their priority order and complete minor repairs, including fencing repairs, replacing damaged signage, replacing light bulbs or clearing chocked wastes pipes smaller multi trade repairs or works which didn’t require an experienced tradesperson to complete.
– Maintaining onsite recycling area ensuring this is kept clear and that our onsite waste is being disposed of correctly.
– Ensure all machinery is cleaned, inspected, maintained and user log book updated daily to agreed transport policy standards and procedures, e.g. oil/tyre/light checks and ensure all pre-start check sheets are completed as required.

What we’re looking for:

– Full driving licence.
– Working knowledge of risk assessment processes.
– Ability to identify and make safe (for self, colleagues and the public) all the utilities and services encountered whilst working on RZSS sites.
– Significant practical experience in the construction and maintenance of buildings, fencing and infrastructure.
– Experience of working as part of a team, and on your own.
– Construction Safety Certificate or equivalent is desirable as is being trained and competent in the operation of RZSS vehicles (e.g. forklift, dumper/lifter, 360 digger, telescopic lift) in a range of complex driving situations

Role will require weekend working on a rotational basis.

Salary for the role is £19,305 – £19,772 per annum.

Dundee Science Centre is currently looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team to fulfil the pivotal role of Visitor Experience Team Leader in a part time capacity.

Threave provides a perfect location for the Trust’s School of Heritage Gardening, offering a wide variety of horticultural experience in both traditional and modern gardening techniques.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Head Gardener/Assistant Head Gardener, to ensure that the garden and estate are managed and maintained to a high standard in line with the aims and objectives of the National Trust for Scotland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assisting with general horticultural duties to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
a. Grass-cutting, strimming, hedge-cutting and raking/collection
b. Assisting with glasshouse duties

d. Vegetable beds and harvesting/growing produce

JOB PURPOSE
To combine responsibilities on nature conservation, visitor services, learning and community engagement to help deliver the strategic objectives of the property and wider National Trust for Scotland.
Protect the landscapes in our care and associated marine habitats as part of ecologically healthy habitat networks where natural processes predominate and help combat climate change. Enable more people to experience more heritage more often, get more out of it & put more back into it. Use evidence and practice from our natural heritage properties to support our voice in national debates advocating for natural heritage. Work with communities living on or close to our land or with an interest in our land so that they collaborate with us to help achieve our natural heritage outcomes. Protect the built and archaeological heritage in our care and use them to help us explain the “habitats” outcome and achieve the “visitor’s” outcome.
This post has a pivotal role in the delivery of our ambitious long-term project to restore the landscape at Kelton Mains Farm on the Threave Estate. The ‘Threave Landscape Restoration Project’ will return the land of Kelton Mains Farm (81 ha) to a fully restored woodland-wetland ecosystem, self-sustaining and self-adapting to Scotland’s changing climate over the next one hundred years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Combine responsibilities across the following areas of work with direct implementation yourself and by overseeing the work of others such as contractors, volunteers, and colleagues:
Nature conservation
• Survey wildlife and habitats and feed this knowledge into management decisions, marketing of natural heritage, and further development of our voice.
• Maintain and manage habitats, wildlife with the aim of protecting species and increasing biodiversity.
• Contribute to the planning and lead the delivery of practical conservation to deliver the outputs agreed in the Annual Operating Plan
Visitor Services
• Provide information to visitors to encourage more visitors and help people get more out of their engagement with natural heritage and give more back to it including “upselling” (e.g.: of membership) using face to face and by other means of interaction such as social media.
• Maintain countryside estate infrastructure at small, day to day scale (e.g. paths, gates, signs, vegetation management) to achieve ecological, visitor services and safety outcomes.
• Occasional Visitor Services duties as cover, when required.
• Assist with events such as public gatherings, NTS events and weddings.
Community engagement
• Communicate with local stakeholders, neighbouring landowners, local businesses, local / regional agencies and others to increase understanding of their and our aims and develop collaborative working to help deliver our priorities.
Learning
• Provide educational and other outreach activities on site or to the community local to the natural heritage and to communities of interest, including for volunteers.
• Delivery of formal and informal learning activities including events, workshops, walks and talks.
Other responsibilities
• Management of practical conservation and wildlife recording.
• Ensure that all activities undertaken are compliant with the Trust’s health and safety policies and procedures including the safe system of work (SSOW), and environmental policy and practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
Qualifications
• A full, clean driving licence for driving in the UK is essential.
• Criminal records (Disclosure Scotland) checking and clearance essential for safeguarding of children/vulnerable adults.
• Graduate level qualifications or equivalent experience in one or more of the following subject areas heritage or cultural studies, visitor services, rural land management, nature conservation, environmental studies.
• Experience of managing safety in the countryside.
• Strimmer, chainsaw and pesticide certification.

KEY PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Head Gardener, and as part of the property team, assist with the conservation, maintenance and development of the garden and estate to ensure that House of Dun, Montrose and other properties across the Angus Cluster are presented to the highest standards to its visitors and guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Key Purposes of the job will be met by:
1. Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden (e.g. managing trees and shrubs, fruit and vegetable cultivation, care and production, herbaceous plants, and bulbs; turf care; pest/disease/weed control; composting and soil improvement; hard-landscaping; path care) to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors;
2. Ability to maintain defined garden areas with minimum supervision demonstrating craft skills & operation of machinery;
3. Contributing to the management, conservation and development of the garden by plant propagation, cultivation, where applicable.
4. Fostering positive relationships with local communities and organisations, promote the work of the Trust, and actively seek opportunities to increase Trust membership;
5. On occasion, contributing to the review and development of property action plans and operational workplans for the garden in collaboration with gardens staff;
6. On occasion, supervising and working with volunteers and/or staff members to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard, and gain benefit/satisfaction from their activities;

SCOPE OF JOB

People Management
 Not a line manager but will, on occasion, supervise volunteers and staff under instructions from Head Gardener;
 Will work closely with other property colleagues, and will have some interaction with other technical/specialist advisory colleagues based in other locations and departments (e.g. Gardens department);

JOB PURPOSE

This role is essential to the success of the PLANTS Project – Plant Listing at National Trust for Scotland, an exciting new three-year programme to update the plant inventories at the 39 major gardens owned or managed by NTS across Scotland. Accurate plant records are essential, to ensure legal compliance, safe management of the collections, and for supporting visitor engagement and research. Working with the newly implemented IrisBG database, this project represents a major investment in our plant collections and will result in up-to-date plant records across the Trust. The completed inventory will help us safeguard the collections and will provide our property and gardens staff with a reliable, accessible source of collections information for interpretation and visitor enjoyment.

The purpose of this post is to manage and oversee the quality of the data and images created and edited during the PLANTS Project. The post holder will be responsible for developing the data standards and providing training in these standards for the data held within IrisBG. They will also monitor the data produced during the project to ensure accuracy and consistency and provide feedback to the team. The post-holder will be responsible for the data processing and ongoing maintenance of the taxonomy and plant sourcing databases within IrisBG. The post holder will also develop the protocols for an extensive programme of volunteer plant photography and specialist photography consultants, ensuring photographic standards, and image processing standards are in place, and monitoring the quality and accuracy of the submitted images and associated metadata for capture in the NTS DAMs system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Develop data standards for the inventory project, providing clear written guidance and training to all project staff to ensure consistent data capture throughout.
• Create and deliver training in inventory technique and data processing for the PLANTS project teams.
• Responsible for ensuring data accuracy by monitoring the data produced by the inventory teams and providing timely feedback and additional training or written guidance to the teams where needed.
• Create regular monitoring reports for the Project Manager.
• Update and process the data held in existing plant taxonomy and the plant source databases within IrisBG.
• Work with IrisBG, and NTS colleagues to troubleshoot database operational issues to ensure the smooth running of the inventory team’s work.
• Manage database user access permissions to ensure inventory team and property staff have the required level of database access for the appropriate properties.
• Monitor data production to ensure that data security and GDPR procedures are adhered to working with the trusts Data Protection Officer. Provide training to property and gardens staff on the GDPR requirements for the compliant collection of plant source data.
• Develop a photography workflow – creating a process for photograph processing, renaming, resizing, and uploading the images to Portfolio DAMS or other NTS image storage solutions.
• Procure professional training for photography volunteers, to ensure consistent quality of photographic submissions.
• Manage bulk data imports on behalf of the project teams and develop templates for future bulk imports and updates.
• Explore and develop possible additional database functionality and tools for future operation of the database.
• Contribute to content production for social media to promote the project.

Reporting to the Head of Veterinary Services for RZSS, you will perform all duties to ensure the smooth running of all veterinary activities at our beautiful and stunning Highland Wildlife Park, located in the Cairngorms National Park.

Following best practice guidance, you’ll be providing the highest standard of veterinary care and animal welfare in support of RZSS’ Vision and mission, aiming to optimise the quality of the visitor experience as appropriate.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £34,389 – £46,956 per annum

Some of the things you’ll do:

– Ensure the highest level of veterinary care, animal welfare, and disease control taking into account relevant legislation and best practice animal management.
– Develop and contribute to best practice guidance, veterinary reports, protocols and working procedures relevant to animal welfare and pre-release management.
– Collate, record and analyse veterinary care data (ZIMS records, biological samples, CCTV footage, diet etc) and use to provide effective guidance / recommendations to support best practice animal husbandry and pre-release management
– Contribute to training programmes (e.g. monitoring, data collection) and post release monitoring activities (e.g. Scottish Wildcats).
– Responsible for participating in a 24/7, 365-day emergency on-call provision for animals held by the RZSS.
– Engage with and support visitors, ensuring your message is consistent with team/project objectives and in line with RZSS’s mission and vision whilst providing first-class customer care and service, e.g. answering visitor queries and undertaking public talks, tours and Keeper for the Day experiences as requested.

What we’re looking for:

– A current Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Diplomate of the – – European College of Zoological Medicine (Zoo Health Management)
– Significant practical experience in a zoo or animal-related environment
– A practical understanding of current conservation science, zoo biology and animal welfare ethics
– Up-to-date knowledge of current veterinary zoological techniques and best practice

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Seabird Officer coordinates and undertakes both practical “on the ground” conservation work plus scientific and policy work. The post will coordinate the Trust’s work on seabird biosecurity, monitoring and liaison with academic partners and help develop and deliver policy and advocacy position on seabirds and associated marine ecology. They also help develop our member and supporter engagement, media, and education work in relation to seabirds. The role is part of the wider Trust nature conservation network of ecologists and policy staff at HQ and experienced rangers on our island and cliff properties, including those who undertake seabird monitoring. The Senior Seabird Officer will raise the profile of the Trust’s role in seabird monitoring and site management on national forums and projects in relation to seabirds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• To develop, oversee and coordinate the Trust’s seabird biosecurity programme.
• To liaise with boat operators, harbour operators, contractors, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and other relevant stakeholders to encourage and facilitate biosecurity best practice in relation to Trust Islands.
• To develop, oversee and coordinate the Trust’s seabird monitoring programme, involving NTS Rangers, volunteers, and contractors. Occasionally there may be a requirement to be involved in similar related work for other (non-seabird) species which occur on islands.
• To collate the Trust’s seabird data and share with external data interests, including the Seabird Monitoring Programme, the Seabird Census, RSPB, Joint Nature Conservation Committee and Nature Scot. Occasionally you may be involved in similar related work for other (non-seabird) species which occur on islands.
• To be the “species lead” for seabird conservation at the Trust, coordinating, guiding and delivering conservation programmes for relevant seabird “priority species” and the seabird’s group as a whole. Develop links with other conservation stakeholders to facilitate this.
• To be the point of liaison at the Trust for academic partners undertaking seabird research on Trust islands and cliffs. To encourage and support such work and interpret and disseminate the results in relation to the Trust’s conservation work. In some cases, where appropriate, the seabird officer may commission or undertake scientific work yourself or coordinate other Trust staff to do so, with support from external academic partners.
• To stay abreast of the latest external developments and information in relation to seabird biosecurity, monitoring, conservation, and policy.
• Coordinate an NTS “Seabird forum” group, for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the NTS Ecology team with seabird related advice at the Trust.

The Administrative Assistant is an entry level position and is key to the general day to day operations of Jupiter Artland.
