The Role – (4 weeks Fixed Term Contract)

To provide specialist ASN support and play work for the Society’s summer school activity. Within the RZSS Discovery & Learning team, lead on play, support learners with Additional Support Needs and provide pastoral support for children attending the summer school programme. Lead on whole group sessions and activities with 100 children.

Some of the things you’ll be doing

* The Summer School ASN & Play Specialist is primarily based at EZ and work may include weekend and evenings.
* The Summer School ASN & Play Specialist does not directly line manage staff but may have supervisory duties for placement students and volunteers.
* The Summer School ASN & Play Specialist spreads the conservation message of RZSS to students and teachers each year and encourages repeat visits to the zoo.
* Deliver all aspects of a defined range of D&L’s educational and learning activities for agreed target participants, to agreed Discovery & Learning Department standards in support of RZSS’ Vision and mission, ensuring all activities deliver value for money and impact for conservation.
* Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues to ensure programmes are administered, delivered and the logistics managed effectively as part of the wider D&L education programme.
* Ensure compliance with RZSS’s policies, procedures and guidelines, together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements (e.g. Child Welfare; HR; H&S; Zoo Licencing Act).

What we are looking for

* Experience working with children in an educational background
* Good understanding of learning outside the classroom.
* Experience working with children with additional support needs.
* Track record of providing first-class customer care and service in relation to educational delivery.
* Experience of teaching or working in a teaching-related environment with particular emphasis upon science communication.

KEY PURPOSE

To ensure that the garden and related policies of Greenbank Garden and Estate are managed and maintained as a nationally-recognised garden of outstanding historical and horticultural importance; contributing to the property’s overall conservation and development, and its enjoyment by visitors and supporters. The role of ‘Gardener’ as a key member of the Greenbank team will be heavily involved in the care and maintenance of the garden and wider designed landscape.

KEY PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Head Gardener, and as part of the property team, assist with the conservation, maintenance and development of the garden and estate to ensure that House of Dun, Montrose and other properties across the Angus Cluster are presented to the highest standards to its visitors and guests.

Job description
We are looking for a full-time evening cleaner who is available and flexible to work any 5 out of 7 evenings each week. Your role would be to ensure a high standard of cleanliness is carried out and maintained including the cleaning of the galleries, café, corporate areas & back of house areas. The position requires some lone working and work during unsociable hours.

Responsibilities
• General cleaning of building and surrounding areas to a 5-star
standard including – all exhibition areas, entrance areas, staff and
back of house areas.
• 5-star customer service and customer interaction.
• Replenishment of dispensers as appropriate – for example, soap,
hand towels etc.
• Interaction with day and evening guests.
• Low level window cleaning.
• Cover events and function cleaning duties as required.
• Respond to general cleaning requirements via internal radio
system
• Conscientious worker able to meet the required quality of
cleaning around the site with the ability to work unsupervised
using their own initiative where necessary
• Flexible and adaptable, to ensure that all tasks can be achieved to

• Working hours are usually 4pm-11pm, including weekends,

JOB PURPOSE

As part of the team which cares for Glencoe National Nature Reserve, a Seasonal Ranger plays a crucial role in ensuring that our conservation ambitions go hand in hand with welcoming our local community and visitors from across the globe to this well-loved place.

You will share your enthusiasm for the outdoors and passion for the countryside with the walkers, campers and sightseers who come to explore our 14,000 acre estate, including eight iconic Munros, in Glencoe and Glen Etive, during the busy summer season.

You will work out in the landscape, on walking routes, in our parking areas, at popular spots for camping and at our visitor centre, acting as an ambassador for the National Trust for Scotland, building awareness and support for our charity. You’ll leave those you meet with a desire to respect, protect and enjoy this special natural environment and an understanding of how they can help do this.

You will work on your own and with other staff and volunteers, on a variety of practical conservation tasks to help us achieve the high presentation and habitat management standards expected of a National Nature Reserve.

You will contribute to the long-term sustainability of Glencoe’s ranger service through income generated at pay-for events, memberships and donations inspired by our work, growing our capacity through volunteers and cost-effective use of resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Visitor Engagement
 Participate in a programme of estate patrols at busy times and locations, including weekends and evenings, to engage with tourists, outdoor activity enthusiasts and campers, championing a “leave no trace” culture and providing practical advice based on the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
 Welcome customers in our Visitor Centre Information Hub in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner, answering queries and providing information about the property, facilities and the local area.
 Contribute to the development and delivery of products that bring alive our stories, including on-site displays, self-guided trails, signage, guided walks, talks or other hands-on activities.

JOB PURPOSE
Ben Lawers NNR is the most important mountain range in the UK for rare alpine plants and insects, some of which occur nowhere else in the country. It is the first place where montane willow scrub, an almost extinct habitat, was restored, and now hosts the finest examples in the UK. Many of the species found in its flower rich habitats are rare and affected by climate change and grazing levels, not to mention the impact of man-made degradation.
We are looking for a Seasonal Ranger to be an enthusiastic and effective part of the ranger service, contributing to the smooth operation and conservation management of Ben Lawers NNR. You must have experience of countryside management to join our close-knit team, assisting with practical countryside tasks, property management and visitor liaison.
You will carry out maintenance and repair of upland footpaths and support delivery of our public facilities and services on Ben Lawers NNR. Keeping the footpath network in good condition to minimise the impact of erosion on the landscape and maximise our visitors’ enjoyment by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income and ensuring that the property and its assets are protected, safe and secure.
The role is a physical one, requiring walking to worksites, some at high altitude, with appropriate tools. Work may be alongside other staff and volunteers but there will be a requirement for lone working.
The role will be ambassadorial, building awareness and support for the National Trust for Scotland leaving those you meet with a desire to respect, protect, and enjoy the special natural environment and an understanding of how they can help to contribute their support to the property. The role will support other staff with events when required, helping to make the property the best possible place to visit and work.

This post has a pivotal role in the delivery of our ambitious long-term project to restore the landscape at Kelton Mains Farm on the Threave Estate. The ‘Threave Landscape Restoration Project’ will return the land of Kelton Mains Farm (81 ha) to a fully restored woodland-wetland ecosystem, self-sustaining and self-adapting to Scotland’s changing climate over the next one hundred years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Combine responsibilities across the following areas of work with direct implementation yourself and by overseeing the work of others such as contractors, volunteers, and colleagues:
Nature conservation
• Survey wildlife and habitats and feed this knowledge into management decisions, marketing of natural heritage, and further development of our voice.
• Maintain and manage habitats, wildlife with the aim of protecting species and increasing biodiversity.
• Contribute to the planning and lead the delivery of practical conservation to deliver the outputs agreed in the Annual Operating Plan
Visitor Services
• Provide information to visitors to encourage more visitors and help people get more out of their engagement with natural heritage and give more back to it including “upselling” (e.g.: of membership) using face to face and by other means of interaction such as social media.
• Maintain countryside estate infrastructure at small, day to day scale (e.g. paths, gates, signs, vegetation management) to achieve ecological, visitor services and safety outcomes.
• Occasional Visitor Services duties as cover, when required.
• Assist with events such as public gatherings, NTS events and weddings.
Community engagement
• Communicate with local stakeholders, neighbouring landowners, local businesses, local / regional agencies and others to increase understanding of their and our aims and develop collaborative working to help deliver our priorities.
Learning
• Provide educational and other outreach activities on site or to the community local to the natural heritage and to communities of interest, including for volunteers.
• Delivery of formal and informal learning activities including events, workshops, walks and talks.
Other responsibilities
• Management of practical conservation and wildlife recording.
• Ensure that all activities undertaken are compliant with the Trust’s health and safety policies and procedures including the safe system of work (SSOW), and environmental policy and practices.
• Manage contractors and supervise volunteers

JOB PURPOSE

Crarae is one of the finest examples of an exotic Himalayan style woodland garden. Set beside the banks of Loch Fyne, this unique 40-hectare garden is planted around the glen of the steep sided Crarae burn. The garden was started by Grace, Lady Campbell in 1912 and includes a National Collection of southern beech as well as excellent examples of rhododendron, maples, mountain ash and eucalyptus.

Under the direction of the Head Gardener, with supervision from the First Gardener, and as part of the property team, you will assist with the conservation, maintenance, and development of the garden and designed landscape to ensure that Crarae Garden is presented to the highest standards to its visitors and guests.

As such, we are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Person to work with our enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers and to assist with the continued development of a wide range of horticultural aspects of the garden as well as increasing the overall importance of Crarae Garden as a visitor attraction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Assist with the conservation and practical maintenance of the garden and policies in terms of:
o Practical horticulture Grass cutting on ride on gang mower. Regular use of pedestrian rotary mowers, regular use of edging shears, strimmers/brushcutters, blowers and other basic machinery. Other gardening /landscaping work when required.
o Participating in horticultural machinery operations including grass cutting, tractor driving, blowing, strimming, hedge cutting, and other general horticultural or landscaping machinery operations.
o Ensure that machinery/tools are used in accordance with the Safe Systems of Work procedures at the property and where appropriate, effect minor repairs or maintenance as instructed.

JOB PURPOSE

This exciting new role will play a key part in the PLANTS Project – Plant Listing at National Trust for Scotland, a three-year programme to survey, and update the plant inventories at the 39 major gardens owned and managed by NTS across Scotland. Accurate plant records are essential, to ensure legal compliance, safe management of the collections, and for supporting visitor engagement and research. Working with the newly implemented IrisBG database, this project represents a major investment in our plant collections and will result in up-to-date plant records across the Trust. The completed inventory will help us safeguard the collections and will provide our property and gardens staff with a reliable, accessible source of collections information for interpretation and visitor enjoyment.

The purpose of this role is to deliver plant collection inventories as part of a regional PLANTS project inventory team on site at properties and to update and process existing accession data within the IrisBG database. The post will involve extensive travel within the region and occasional visits to other parts of Scotland for project meetings and the post holder will be expected to undertake extended periods of time away from home to facilitate this where daily travel distances are impractical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Undertake plant inventories at properties during the spring and summer seasons using plant identification and research skills to create accurate lists of plants held within the plant collections.
• Process the data collected during the inventories matching established plants found with existing records, creating new records for unregistered plants, and checking the accession records in the database to ensure all data held is accurate and consistent.
• Undertake research into locally held property files and plant records to bring together background and supplementary data surrounding the plant specimens and process this in accordance with records held in IrisBG.
• Produce content for social media and contribute to a program of public and stakeholder communication promoting the project.
• Work with and induct project volunteers and property-based volunteers with a particular focus on facilitating the volunteer led plant photography aspect to the project.
• Work with gardens and property staff to schedule and carry out the inventories and to foster a new culture of record keeping with property teams.
• Engage with the visiting public on location at properties during inventories to promote the project and answer questions whilst working.
• Support gardens staff to follow Trust policies and procedures for the long-term maintenance of the plant inventory information in IrisBG.

You’ll leave those you meet with a desire to respect, protect and enjoy this special natural environment and an understanding of how they can help do this.

You will work on your own and with other staff and volunteers, on a variety of practical conservation tasks to help us achieve the high presentation and habitat management standards expected of a National Trust for Scotland sites.

You will contribute to the long-term sustainability of North Perthshire Ranger service through income generated at payed-for events, memberships and donations inspired by our work, growing our capacity through volunteers and cost-effective use of resources.

 Hold a qualification in a relevant discipline and / or at least a year’s ranger experience.

 Strong knowledge of natural history and conservation, especially upland flora & fauna of Scotland.

The St Abb’s Head property is one of the most heavily designated natural and cultural heritage sites in the UK, including a National Nature Reserve, two Sites of Special Scientific Interest, two Special Areas of Conservation, a Special Protection Area, two Geological Conservation Review sites, and three Scheduled Monuments.

The property is internationally important for breeding seabirds and species rich grasslands and breeding grey seals as well as being home to a wide range of other wildlife. This along with the stunning coastal landscape means it is a regionally important tourist attraction which attracts over 50,000 visitors annually.

We are looking for someone with some experience of countryside management to join our close-knit team, assisting with practical countryside tasks, property management and visitor liaison. Nature Conservation
 Be an enthusiastic and effective part of the ranger service, contributing to the smooth operation and ecological enhancement of St Abb’s Head NNR.
 Carry out regular site monitoring checks and record keeping, helping us to evaluate performance and plan our conservation activities, including habitat and species surveys, foot path condition checks, weather gauge observations and people counter figures.
 Ecological monitoring to include sea bird counts, other surveys and set mapping and a range of other biological recording.
