Visitor Services Assistant – Catering (Fyvie Castle)

As a member of our Visitor Services team your job is to give visitors from across the globe a warm welcome to Fyvie Castle and help generate the income that enables us to care for Fyvie Castle and other National Trust for Scotland properties.

Visiting our tearoom is an essential part of the visitor experience and the role of the Visitor Service Assistant – Catering is to make it a positive and memorable part of a visitor’s day with us.

You will help us maximise sales through excellent customer service and product knowledge, taking a pride in store presentation and effective behind-the-scenes processes.

Session Facilitator: Young People (fixed term)

The programme
Where we are is a new national programme delivered by the British Museum and supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. From 2021-2025 the programme will work with third sector and cultural partners across the country to develop meaningful arts and cultural projects with young people.
These co-produced projects will respond to something in their local area that the young people are passionate about and as such the direction these projects will take will be driven by the young people.
This year we are working with three partners:
• Museum & Galleries Edinburgh and Edinburgh Young Carers, Edinburgh, Scotland
• Geraldine Connor Foundation and Harewood House Trust, Leeds, Yorkshire and the Humber
• Attenborough Arts Centre, University of Leicester and Pedestrian, Leicester, East Midlands
We are seeking to appoint a session facilitator for our Edinburgh partnership who will work with the young people to develop their ideas and passions into a creative output.
Once we know what the young people want to develop, the facilitator will be responsible for working with the young people to hire a relevant creative practitioner who will work closely with the facilitator, young people and project partners to shape the arts and cultural output.
Vital to the success of this project is listening to young people about what they are interested in talking about and exploring possible ways for them to express this interest. This project will not be about dictating ideas of culture to young people, but will be about listening to what culture means to them. However, it will be important to provide young people with a scaffold and framework within which to work.
By working in a co-production four-way partnership between the British Museum, cultural organisations, third sector organisations and young people, the programme aims to:
1. Remove some of the barriers to engagement with the cultural sector that young people face
2. Create a sense of agency in young people that can be reflected into their communities

Role description
You will be working with 10 young people aged 18-24 who are supported by Edinburgh Young Carers. A key part of this role will be to coax out of the young people what they are interested in and how they want to talk about that. The successful candidate will be able to work with young people who do not see themselves in museum or gallery spaces and will be able to draw out of the young people the confidence and skills needed to develop a creative output.
The sessions will take place in Museums & Galleries Edinburgh venues in the city centre (restrictions allowing).

Duties will include:
1. Working closely with the Edinburgh partners and the British Museum to develop a
robust yet flexible plan for a taster day and 6 full day sessions with the young
people, providing a framework to work with the young people.
2. Developing sessions that are relevant, responsive and adaptable to the young
people’s needs.
3. Creating a group agreement with the young people
4. Working closely with project evaluators
5. Working closely with all partners to understand Museum & Galleries Edinburgh’s
collection and the needs of Edinburgh Young Carers service users.
6. Building rapport with the young people, being mindful of their lived experience and
other responsibilities
7. Working collaboratively with a creative practitioner to shape the creative output
with young people
8. Collaborating closely with all partners, communicating clearly with Museums &
Galleries Edinburgh about the day-to-day and reporting into the British Museum
about overall progress
9. Communicating closely with all partners and committing to regular catch up

Person specification

We are particularly interested in applications from people who have shared lived experiences with the young people in your area. Any experience required can be demonstrated by paid for or voluntary work or can come from outside the work environment.

1. Committed and passionate about co-producing meaningful creative projects with a
diverse group of young people
2. Ability to relate to young people and draw out their skills, interests and experiences
into meaningful arts/cultural project ideas
3. Experience of co-production working in museum, gallery or cultural settings
informally with a diverse group of young people
4. Experience of developing sessions that respond to various learning styles and
abilities
5. Ability to work with a creative practitioner collaboratively to develop project ideas
and outputs with young people
6. Ability to communicate effectively with project partners both verbally and in writing
7. Confidence in delivering workshops in person and online
8. Understanding and experience of safeguarding young adults

Pay and term
• £4,800 for 20 days work (£240 a day), exclusive of VAT. We are flexible about how
this time is allocated, but there will be 6 days of sessions across August – November
and one taster day on 31st July. All sessions will be held on Saturdays.
• The role will ultimately report to Sophie Alonso, National Programme Manager at
the BM, but will work closely with Ria Sloan, Outreach and Access Manager, at
Museum & Galleries Edinburgh and Lee MacKenzie at Edinburgh Young Carers. Ria
Sloan will manage the day to day management of the role.
• Disclosure Scotland check will be needed. Please let us know if you have this
already.
• You will need to provide proof that you can work in the UK

Catering Assistant (Seasonal)

July-September

We are looking for professional and motivated individuals to represent one of Dumfries & Galloway’s finest tourist destinations during the 2021 season.

Working in our Larchwood Cabin you will provide a warm welcome to visitors, take orders, serve refreshments, check tickets, operate the till and coffee machine and help with occasional food preparation of sandwiches and light lunches. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the cabin – if you have a passion for providing outstanding hospitality then we want to hear from you!

Car Parking Marshall (Seasonal)

July-September

We are looking for professional and motivated individuals to represent one of Dumfries & Galloway’s finest tourist destinations during the 2021 season.

As a Car Parking Marshall, you will have a friendly and professional approach and will be responsible for directing customers to spaces, providing advice to visitors, processing payments, and generally ensuring that things run smoothly on entrance to the Castle car park. Visitor Experience Assistants

The roles

We have 3 roles available as Visitor Experience Assistant, working to provide a first-class service to visitors to our beautiful RZSS Highland Wildlife Park, engaging with customers/visitors and ensuring a high standard of customer service at all times, presenting our park to the highest standards.

* 2 x Visitor Experience Assistant (30 hours per week, primarily centered in the visitor cafe)
* 1 x Visitor Experience Assistant

Some of the things you’ll do:

* Provide first-class customer service by maintaining a positive, welcoming environment, proactive and helpful attitude to all visitors and colleagues to meet/exceed our Visitor Experience Standards, e.g. provide a personal, knowledgeable, and positive level of service daily.
* Respond to unexpected situations (minor customer complaint) in a professional manner and seek advice and support from your line manager when required.
* Ensure designated department/areas are maintained to the highest standard, ensuring stocks are regularly replenished, all areas are clean and clear, all displays are presented as directed (e.g. housekeeping duties such as toilet checking and litter picking).
* Occasionally help in other operational areas including admissions, catering, events, retail, parking, sentry, tours & talks, or any other department who may need back up support on a flexible basis.

What we’re looking for:

* Good achievement in standard grades (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
* Valid driving license (tours & presentations only)
* Accurate numerical reasoning skills and attention to detail.

Chef de Partie

Casual Assistants Falkirk Hire Boats

The Falkirk Wheel is looking for Hire Boats Assistants for the cleaning and handover team to ensure the consistent high level of customer service to all holiday boat customers. These roles are offered on a casual basis at living wage.

You will set the standard and ensure we exceed visitor expectations at all times. Customer care is of primary importance. You will manage and influence the visitor journey for hire boat customers to ensure they leave having a 5* experience with us.

Cleaning Team

Be responsible, with other members of the team, for complying with all statutory regulations pertaining to operating a boat hire holiday company

Seasonal Activities Leader

We are looking for Seasonal Activity Leaders to work out of the Falkirk Wheel. Our Seasonal contracts have various working patterns and hours and are a fantastic opportunity to assist at one of Scotland’s greatest landmarks.

We offer a wide range of activities from this location, including; mini-golf, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding and are looking to develop many more activities including archery and bushcraft!

The role of the Activity Leader is crucial to the success of the season. Your qualifications and prior experience will enable you to ‘hit the ground running’ in developing the activities portfolio over the season. Activity Leaders will engage with a variety of Schools and Groups as well as members of the public to promote the activities available. Leaders will work collaboratively to manage the day-to-day business, including preparation and the safe delivery of activities as well as general maintenance, cleaning of equipment and the centre itself.
