Mount Stuart House & Gardens reopen for the season on Friday 15th April 2022. Applications are now open to join our established seasonal team.

The Courtyard Cafe requires a motivated and creative Seasonal Cook to join the team for the 2022 season. Successful candidates will support the Catering Manager to plan, create and deliver tasty menu options using seasonal produce sourced from our Kitchen Garden and other local suppliers. The successful candidate will also be responsible for stock ordering and maintaining cleanliness standards in the kitchen.

Working closely with and reporting to our Catering Manager, you will deliver a first class food experience both in the café and, as required, at events. Successful candidates must have experience in a similar role. A minimum of Elementary Food Hygiene is a requirement for this role.

The role is paid hourly (rate according to experience) and is fixed term March-October. Weekend and bank holiday work is part of the role.

The role

Providing a first-class sales and customer service experience to all visitors at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo and by providing information and assistance and ensuring an environment that is engaging and well maintained.

This is a seasonal, variable hours role for a 6 month period and weekend working will be required.

Some of the things you’ll do:

* Provide first-class customer service by maintaining a positive, welcoming environment, proactive and helpful attitude to all visitors at all times, meeting or exceeding our Customer Service Standards.
* Operate retail systems efficiently and effectively to both sell and upsell products.
* Ensure all front of house areas and other RZSS retail outlets are maintained to the highest standard, ensuring stocks are regularly replenished, all areas are clean and clear, all products are displayed and merchandised as directed.
* Operate the tills efficiently and assist with the counting and recording of monies to agreed standards.
* Occasionally provide assistance in other operational areas including events, car parking and driving visitor passenger vehicles.

Purpose of the Role
To maximise visitor enjoyment of this property by helping to care for, protect and promote its Nationally Significant Collections and historic Interiors and by providing an efficient and effective service through high standards of Collections care and conservation cleaning based on the needs of the property and its collections.

Key Responsibilities

The Collections Care Assistant is responsible for a wide variety of duties in connection with the care and conservation of the interiors and collections at Brodick Castle. These duties involve the correct handling and conservation cleaning of the collections, following best-practice at all times, and general housekeeping duties throughout the House.

Specific duties include:
• Best-practice conservation cleaning of the collections (furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, works of art, textiles, rugs, books etc), using property-specific cleaning plans and approved and recommended methods, materials and equipment
• Conducting the daily, weekly, monthly and annual conservation cleaning of the collections & property including the collection storage areas, the visitor route and visitor services areas
• Assisting the property teams to hold functions and events ensuring appropriate conservation standards are upheld.
• Monitoring the condition of the collections, both through routine, informal checking and formal record keeping, reporting any concerns, damage or loss to the Collections Management Officer, the Regional Conservator and the Collections Services Team
• Accessing the Trusts Collections Management Database, Adlib, obtain information about the collections as and when required.
• Contributing to the NTS Integrated Pest Management strategy & assist with required treatments.
• Supported by the Collections Management Officer, ensuring sufficient stocks of conservation materials are maintained
• Assisting the Collections Management Officer to promote the Property and collections using social media and in house activities and events
• Undertaking in-house and external training as appropriate to ensure the highest level of conservation cleaning and collections care is adhered to at the property

Purpose of the role – how it adds value
To contribute to the management of Brodick Country Park & Goatfell, in line with the Trust’s objectives for conservation, access and enjoyment, and meeting health and safety and other policies and standards. To help deliver the targets in the countryside management operational plan. The post holder will help to protect and enhance the natural and cultural heritage whilst facilitating access by visitors and increasing their enjoyment and understanding by means of interpretation and partnerships with local stakeholders.

Brodick Castle, Country Park and Goatfell could be described as the archetypal Trust property exhibiting all the elements that the Trust aims to conserve, from built and natural heritage to the collections, designed landscape and wild land.

Brodick Castle, with its magnificent gardens and policies, rises majestically above Brodick Bay on the Isle of Arran. Once owned and created by the Dukes of Hamilton, one of Scotland’s grandest aristocratic families, the property derives much of its significance from this association. The Castle is of national importance for its architectural and archaeological interest, and the gardens have three national collections of Rhododendrons.

JOB PURPOSE
To provide operational coordination and supervision of catering at Leith Hall in line with the Trust’s policies, priorities, performance standards and targets to contribute to the enjoyment of the property by visitors and members, and help ensure commercial, financial, and conservation objectives are achieved.
The Visitor Services Supervisor at a Trust property plays a pivotal role ensuring that the management objectives are achieved through excellent customer service and, with delegated responsibility for catering, retail, events and duty management is very often the “face” of the Trust to visitors and suppliers. As such, s/he directly influences public perceptions of the Trust and is crucial to developing and maintaining the property’s local/national reputation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervising/undertaking the day-to-day operation of the property and environs to ensure an excellent customer/visitor experience. This includes supervision of:
• Catering offer, including ordering, merchandising, sales targets;
• Line management of Visitor Services Assistants and volunteers
• Duty management and oversight/maintenance of the property
• Ensure the property social media is managed to generate interest, engagement and help drive visitors
• Security of the Property;
• Health & Safety procedures, emergency procedures, and environmental procedures;
• Deputising for the VSS Operations on-site and off-site as required
