Job Purpose:
To take an active role with the day to day running of the venue.
Including running reception desk, gift shop, room bookings and display area operations.
Key function is to provide first class services to the visiting public.

Responsibilities:
1. Provide a first class visitor experience at all times and act as a role model for excellent customer service.

2. Undertake reception duties, (e.g. admission of members of the public, dealing with enquiries, process bookings and retail sales using electronic systems, issuing customer research paperwork, maintain and monitor electronic records, etc.).

3. Work in the attraction shop/retail area, actively selling merchandise, merchandising, restocking and rotating stock as well as ensuring general up keep of the area.

4. In line with legal and operational guidelines, process cash and card transactions, bank income and complete daily and weekly income records.

5. Proactively encourage visitors to make a donation to support their visit, actively upselling benefits of contributing through donations.

6. Actively and accurately deliver visitor information on the attraction, other Live Borders facilities and the wider visitor/heritage economy of the Borders and beyond using a range of resources including on site materials and digital facilities.

7. Dealing with general enquiries and relaying these to relevant staff where appropriate, recording data relating to offers of prospective loans or donations received from the public.

8. Assist with the proper security of the venue, including key holding duties.

9. Follow daily cleaning and housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining an excellent customer service experience, including but not limited to; emptying waste bins, dusting, glass cleaning and vacuuming, customer toilet checks throughout the day, welcome area outside building is clean and well presented. This work will involve some handling and lifting abilities and use of standard cleaning equipment.

10. Liaising with the Assistant Curator/Supervisor regarding matters relating to the museum, displays, collections and facilities as per agreed procedures. Ensure that museum displays are fit for purpose i.e. supplies of hands-on material are adequate, electronic equipment is in working order, displays/interpretation are in place.

11. Assist at events including, private views, education activities and group visits.

12. Undertaking minor maintenance/repairs as directed to the displays, fixtures and fittings, including replacing light bulbs (where possible), monitoring environmental conditions (where appropriate) and ensuring that all matters of significance are recorded appropriately and reported to Assistant Curator/Supervisor for attention.

13. Undertake occasional work on the museum collections as directed including; compiling and checking paper records, museum paperwork duties, data collation and input, answering enquiries and re-packing boxes of museum objects as per established procedures.

14. Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues within the organisation
15. Comply with, and ensure compliance with, all Live Borders policies and procedures

16. Ensure services meet Health and Safety standards established by Live Borders

Dundee Science Centre is currently looking for confident, exceptional communicators to join our team to fulfil the key role of Science Communicator in a part-time capacity.

You will be part of a team responsible for the smooth operation of Dundee Science Centre’s programmes and services on a daily basis, supporting the Visitor Experience Leader (VEL). You will support the wider team in science communication and ensure the quality of delivery by team members meets audience expectations and standards. Primary objectives will be championing enhanced visitor engagement, ensuring that audiences have an enjoyable, safe, and inspiring experience.

You will be an ambassador for and the public face of Dundee Science Centre. You will be an excellent communicator and an effective team player with the ability to multi-task. Your main function will be to interact with all visitors in a friendly, outgoing manner ensuring an exceptional experience.

You may at times be responsible for: developing high quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes across all audiences in a blended approach with a key focus on digital, in-centre, outreach and in homes in line with Dundee Science Centre’s key aims and objectives, alongside local and national government initiatives, and priorities.

We’re recruiting folk to develop and deliver simple activities that engage and entertain visitors to Almond Valley. During the course of the summer holidays we’ll be running Summertime Discoveries; a daily programme of informal activities and demonstrations that families can join in or leave as they wish during the course of their visit. Most sessions take place outdoors and might involve animals on the farm, our vegetable crops, our woods and green spaces, or relate to our museum collections. Activities will be simple, satisfying and suited to primary-age kids, often involving easy crafts, observations, stories and experiments

We’re looking for people who are good with people, and find it easy to communicate their insight and enthusiasm to younger visitors. They will be practical, empathetic and engaging, with the necessary confidence, presence and communication skills. They are likely to have specialist interests, qualifications and skills in areas that will be relevant to the programme; and might be from a scientific or a creative background.

These fixed-term appointments will extend from mid-June until the end of August, with the expectation that candidates will be generally available throughout this period. A 40 hour week will be worked, five days in seven, @ £9.50 p/h or minimum wage. Explainers will prepare and deliver these public activities and attend to any other visitor service duty that may be required

This is an exciting opportunity to work for the lead body responsible for the historic environment in Scotland. You will be actively involved in work which supports providing the best experience for our visitors – ranging from: greeting our visitors in the car park, selling admission tickets and processing online bookings. Threave is one of the National Trust for Scotland’s top ten most visited attractions. The garden is made up of many landscaped features and themed areas including a Secret Garden, Rock Garden, Sculpture Garden, a variety of different water features, Azalea walk and heather beds, a one-acre traditional working walled kitchen garden, orchard, large nursery with new glasshouse facilities, extensive woodland garden and broad variety of themed beds and borders planted with a large and diverse collection of plants. Threave provides a perfect location for the Trust’s School of Heritage Gardening, offering a wide variety of horticultural experience in both traditional and modern gardening techniques.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Head Gardener/Assistant Head Gardener, to ensure that the garden and estate are managed and maintained to a high standard in line with the aims and objectives of the National Trust for Scotland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assisting with general horticultural duties to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
a. Grass-cutting, strimming, hedge-cutting and raking/collection
b. Assisting with glasshouse duties
c. Hand-weeding of beds and borders
d. Vegetable beds and harvesting/growing produce
e. Planting out ( under direction of staff)
f. Application of mulches

2. Assisting with general property maintenance duties and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
a. Refuse disposal / litter picking if required
b. Raking gravel paths

3. Assisting as required with the general enjoyment of the gardens and estate by:
a. Responding to general visitor enquiries
b. Assisting at events held within the garden or on the estate

4. Working with the full time staff to foster positive relationships with visitors and promoting the work of the Trust.

5. Working alongside volunteers, seasonals and trainees.

6. Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors. This includes recognition of the Trust’s environmental policy with respect to sustainable gardening policies.
