JOB PURPOSE
This job will be two-fold – part of the time you will be working in our Admissions team, and the other part within our Retail team. In Admissions – you will welcome visitors to the property, promote and sell Trust Membership, sell admissions tickets and control visitor entry/flow, facilitating their access and enjoyment to Culzean Castle and Country Park. In Retail – you will ensure that the Gift Shop is presented to the highest standard and you are knowledgeable about the products sold within the Gift Shop. You will be expected to meet (if not exceed) sales targets.

A Visitor Services Assistant is crucial to our visitors’ “first impression” of the property and in establishing and maintaining the Trust’s reputation as a guardian of Scotland’s heritage and as the organisation that actively wants people to engage with and enjoy the properties it cares for. As you will be working in a customer-facing role, this means you will directly engage with visitors on arrival (and often at departure) so excellence in customer care is paramount, as you will be responsible for ensuring you are providing our Visitors with the best entry options (Membership, admissions tickets, guidebooks). The Visitor Services Assistant is expected to meet (if not exceed) sales targets for the selling of merchandise and gifts, as well as Memberships and Guidebooks. You are also expected to be knowledgeable and actively engage with our visitors and provide general “tourist information” for the locality and other nearby Trust properties.

JOB PURPOSE
To maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure.

The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining consistently high standards of customer service, merchandising and presentation in order to maximise sales and ensure the best possible visitor experience.

This role is ideal for someone with retail experience and an interest in contemporary art and culture. Working with the Sales & Retail Manager, the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new retail ideas and opportunities while gaining an in-depth understanding of DCA’s retail systems in order to deliver effective staff briefings and training. The post holder will develop knowledge and understanding of all areas of the organisation’s work in order to support the Visitor Assistants and provide effective customer service.

About the role

Are you looking for an PA role with a difference? We’re looking for an experienced, professional Administrator to support the Director of Audience.  

The role does have some of the typical duties you would expect – email management, organising meetings, minute taking, collating presentations, and drafting correspondence, to name a few. However, the focus will be working autonomously to keep a track of projects, high level plans, conducting research and completing a wide range of tasks for the Director of Audience.

Whilst an interest in art would be great it’s not essential. However, you must already have extensive experience providing PA support at this level. Who we are looking for

To succeed in this role, you’ll need the following range of knowledge, skills, and experience:

– Facilitating good communications with other departments across the organisation.

– Excellent IT skills (minimum intermediate level) using MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), OneDrive and Teams. You will also have a good working knowledge of Inter/Intranet.

– Understanding of administrative systems, filing, record keeping with a particular reference to standard project management methodologies.

BACKGROUND
The National Mining Museum Scotland is an independent trust and the national body responsible for the preservation and interpretation of Scotland’s Mining Heritage. The museum holds a collection of objects of national significance and is on the site of the Lady Victoria Colliery, built in the 19th Century, in Newtongrange, Midlothian.
The museum offers a wide range of activities and events to a diverse audience of local, national and international audiences. The visitor experience includes access to the collections through tours and exhibitions, an award winning education programme and an inviting shop and café area.

PURPOSE OF POST
To assist in the café of the National Mining Museum Scotland, which will include; preparation of and serving food, creating menus, assisting with orders and stocktake. The post holder will be part of the front of house team and the role will be customer facing, which will require a high standard of customer service and engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Act as a front of house server for the café and in-house functions; includes preparing hot drinks and serving food.
2. Be customer focused at all times; approachable and quick to exceed expectations in fulfilling customer needs.
3. Ensure that customers receive a prompt and efficient service and expectations are met.

Our Visitor Experience Assistants are key members of our team who act as the first point of contact for visitors – welcoming them to the Centre, providing information on what we do and helping people to learn more about Scotland’s amazing marine wildlife and habitats. Your aim is to ensure that our visitors have a genuinely memorable experience. The role provides an opportunity to both gain experience of, and deliver, excellent customer service across our welcome point, retail, discovery experience and boat (seasonal March-October) activities. At times, you will be asked to help the wider team with café duties, so this role is never dull!

Principal duties

We are looking for enthusiastic people who enjoy proactively engaging with customers across a range of departments. • Support the booking systems for our experience activities (boats, discovery, and events) and process admission tickets and/or refunds.

• Support our volunteer team who assist with various activities in the Centre.

Discovery Experience: You will support visitors to get the most from the exhibits, interactives, and remote live cameras within our Discovery Experience, including giving information on local wildlife sightings and presentations to groups of visitors on a range of topics (training will be given).

Retail: You will assist at our Information and Retail counter ensuring that all displays and counters are appropriately stocked and presented, assisting with stock selection and management, and supporting customer sales at the till or online. This is the key point for providing general information to our customers.

Boats: you will support customers who wish to take one of our amazing wildlife boat trips by processing bookings, providing information on what they might see and managing any cancellations and refunds to customers.

Café: At peak times you will also support our café operations which will include taking and processing orders at the till, serving meals, clearing and cleaning tables and assisting in the dishwasher area.
