Part Time

We are seeking a part-time Visitor Services Assistant to enhance our ground-breaking museum. Reporting to the Visitor Services Supervisor the primary duties and responsibilities will include:

Opening and closing the museum
Supervising the museum, maintaining the safety and security of visitors, volunteers, and the collection
Welcoming visitors, taking money, and issuing tickets
Handling cash
– Issuing tickets to visitors

– Cashing up at the end of day

– Transferring monies to Finance Department

– Selling books, posters, and other stock

Recording the number of visitors
Recording shop sales and keeping stock of shop items
Daily front of house housekeeping, i.e. Leaflet replenishment and wiping cases.
Answering or taking enquiries to pass on to volunteers and staff

Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills
The post requires experience of using standard systems (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) as well as previous experience of cash handling. You will have good organisation, verbal and written skills and a knowledge of/interest in the history of surgery and medicine is desirable. A good level of education with at least credit level Standard Grade English or equivalent is required.

2022 was a phenomenal year for our charity and its parks as we launched a new Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) strategy pledging to reverse the decline of at least 50 species by 2030.

At our Highland Wildlife Park, we saw our polar bear cub (Brodie) take his first steps outside, welcomed the arrival of three snow leopard cubs, continued our fantastic work on the saving the critically endangered pine hoverfly and had a very successful first breed season of our Scottish Wildcats with 22 kittens being born… and that’s just in one year!

The role

In this role you will be providing a first-class customer service and consistently high-quality food service experience to all visitors at Highland Wildlife Park (HWP) and by providing information and assistance and ensuring an environment that is engaging and well maintained.

This role is offered on a part time/permanent basis: 30 hours per week (annualised hours).

Salary: £17,004 – £17,404 per annum (pro-rata salary for 30 hours per week)

Some of the things you’ll do:

Provide first-class customer service by maintaining a positive, welcoming environment, proactive and helpful attitude to all visitors at all times, meeting or exceeding our Customer Service Standards.
Ensure work areas are maintained to the highest health, safety and hygiene standards
Ensure all areas are clean and clear, storerooms are well stocked and organized at all times, all kitchenware/equipment is clean and stored appropriately
Assisting with the smooth running of the kitchen production areas
Assisting with basic food preparations
Operate the tills efficiently and assist with the counting and recording of monies to agreed standards.

 Wearing correct uniform, name badges, or PPE as required.
 Reporting all instances of damage and wear and tear issues promptly to your line manager.
 Working in harmony with other departments; housekeeping, gardening, grounds maintenance and site repair employees/contractors.

Financial responsibilities
 To adhere to all financial procedures to include till operation and banking and safeguarding of monies: to implement amendments to standard procedure as instructions may dictate.

Retail/Catering/Events/Cashier duties
 To ensure good housekeeping of catering kitchens, serveries and back of house areas.
 To ensure that retail merchandising is in accordance with NTS policy.
 To assist in achieving site retail/catering/events targets and KPI’s.
 To actively upsell products and services to facilitate the visitor’s enjoyment.
 To actively feedback visitor comments to line managers to develop and improve offer, service, operations.
 To work flexibly across departments and sites as needed.
 To assist with the set-up, stewarding and break-down of events in liaison with the events coordinator.
 To assist with Heritage Hospitality events. Staff may be asked to work through into the night hours.
Health and Safety
 To ensure site meets with Health and Safety legislation in liaison with your department manager.
 To ensure that visitors vacate the site at close of business and that the site is secured at end of day.
 To use personal protection equipment as provided and directed by your line manager

As well as being responsible for security matters, you will carry out general maintenance, support contractors/colleagues and provide assistance to the Family when they are in residence. You should have experience in a security environment and an awareness of fire, security & CCTV systems and be comfortable with manual handling. Brodie Castle and Estate is situated in the parish of Dyke and Moy, Morayshire. The castle has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1979 and opened its doors to the public for the first time in 1980. The estate comprises Brodie Castle – which dates from 1567 – and its policies, which include a walled garden, parkland, driveways, a formal avenue and extensive plantations. Brodie Castle is further enhanced by the impressive interiors and collections it contains. Within Brodie Castle there are historic interiors of exceptional quality, which contain fine plaster ceilings and collections of international significance.

The post-holder is responsible, with the support of the Housekeeping and Holiday – Let Supervisor for delivering the highest standards of housekeeping, holiday-let servicing and customer care across the Brodie Estate.

We are now seeking a Conservator to join our Collections Care team. The purpose of this role is to provide conservation advice and guidance for staff across the Library. The role holder will develop and implement conservation treatment for a wide variety of collection items to enable reader access, display and digitisation.

Applicants should have at least two years of practical experience since qualifying, including experience of treating books and flat paper items. Working with colleagues across the Library, the role will seek funding from lottery, grant givers, trusts and foundations as well as through corporate sponsorship to support a variety of inspiring projects including a major campaign to mark the Library’s 100th birthday in 2025.

We’d like to work with a fundraiser with good knowledge of the funding landscape and a track record of securing significant donations, delivering on grant conditions, cultivating high-level funder relationships.  Reporting to the Head of Development, you’ll be proactive and imaginative with a keen eye for detail and a flair for both written and face to face communication.
